Situated at the base of Vail mountain, the town of Vail has an Austrian charm and upscale ambience. Truly one of the great resorts in North America, Vail boasts a wide range of quality restaurants, bars and shops.

Established in 1962 by Peter Seibert, Vail was the natural choice for a man who had spent his war time training days back country skiing in the surrounding mountains with the 10th Mountain Division. Now 40 yrs later the full potential of the area has been met with the most extensive ski resort in North America situated on three distinct areas.

Vail is the single largest ski resort in North America, featuring the vast and varied Front Side, the powder paradise of the Legendary Back Bowls and the adventure of Blue Sky Basin.

The Front Side boasts more than 127 individual trails with amazing views of the Gore Range. And don’t miss the Golden Peak Terrain Park featuring a superpipe, jumps and huge rail park.

The Legendary Back Bowls feature not just one, but seven huge, wide open bowls offering an unparalleled powder paradise.

Blue Sky Basin, miles from civilisation, offers 645 acres of natural, gladed terrain. Intermediate and advanced skiers and riders will find themselves surrounded by tall evergreens, acres of white snow and an endless sky of blue.

You can also enjoy Adventure Ridge which is Vail’s day and night mountaintop activity centre. It’s packed with family fun from ice skating and twilight snowmobiling tours to snowshoe tours and long fast tubing lanes.

Beginners
Vail has excellent nursery slopes for beginners at resort level and at altitude and also easy longer runs to progress to.

Intermediates
The majority of Vail’s front face is great intermediate territory, with easy cruising runs. Intermediates will also find plenty to interest them in the Back Bowls, while some of the un pisted slopes make the ideal introduction to powder.

Advanced
On Vails front face there are some genuinely steep double-black diamond runs which are often mogulled but sometimes groomed to make wonderful fast cruising. Vail’s back bowls are vast areas, you can go virtually anywhere you like in the half dozen bowls, trying the gradient and terrain of your choice. There are interesting lightly wooded areas, as well as the open slopes that dominate the area. While Blue Sky Basin has some great adventure runs in the trees.
